Julie Smith

Hi I'm Julie Smith and I'm delighted to be your local mobile dog groomer covering the Rugby and Kenilworth area in Warwickshire.

Having worked as a Community Nurse with the NHS for the last 17 years and having a real appreciation how dogs make such a huge impact on the emotional well being in peoples lives, I decided to become a dog groomer to ground myself following my Dad passing away of a sudden illness. I have had a fantastic career in the NHS however my dad's passing gave me an opportunity to reflect on where my hearts always been and what I've wanted to do - to work with dogs.

My 4 year old Border Terrier, Alfie, has given me such joy, love and a sense of peace and has changed my life. He has shown me what's really important and dogs teach us about how to be in the moment that keeps us emotionally healthy, in addition to the physical exercise we get from being dog owners and keeping us fit.

Having had the unconditional love of a dog, and truly feeling what they bring to our lives I will embrace this opportunity and give your dog the pampering and love he deserves, giving the time to show him how important he is in your life by giving him the peace, quiet and fuss that a busy dog grooming salon cannot.

Barking Mad Dog Mobile Dog Grooming offers a personal, professional service at your home and at your convenience, and I can't wait to give your dog the care and love he deserves.

Happy dog

My News

I would like to give a special thanks to Rugby Photographer Martin Curley who took these lovely photos for me with my Border Terrier, Alfie and his dog, Puzzle, who is also a Barking Mad Customer! Martin has a great deal of patience as both dogs were more interested in playing with one another rather than sitting still posing for the camera!

Martin has a special interest in Pet Photography and he can be found on www.martincurley.com

Here is Oscar before and after his groom, using 100% Organic Shampoo. It looks like he is smiling!

There are many ways that I try to make the grooming experience as calm and enjoyable for your dog as possible. I use Pet Remedy plug ins in the van along with Pet Remedy De Stress Spray which I spray on my clothes before a groom.

I've also noticed that most dogs seem to calm with music and I've realised that music such as Mozart and Norah Jones seem to have the best results! It's amazing how music has a calming influence on dogs.

I use Animology Shampoo and 100% Organic Shampoo, and I've noticed that Secret Weapon Shampoo which is made from natural ingredients such as Manderins is great for knots and improves drying time, hence reduces the time for your dog.

I also clean my van with organic cleaning material to ensure your dog is not stressed with strong unnatural odours.

I would like to mention that we have a celebrity amongst our Barking Mad customers! Dylan the Clumber Spaniel recently qualified and entered CRUFTS on 5th March in the Post Graduate class of the Clumber Spaniel category. He was amongst 83 doggie contestants in that class and managed to qualify in several different rounds. Ray, his dad said that Dylan was well behaved he loved all the attention and took it all in his stride but poor Ray said he was nervous as anything!

Here is Dylan before his Barking Mad Groom and afterwards just before he entered CRUFTS!!

I recently qualified in level 3 City and Guilds with Distinctions after my training at Warwickshire Dog Grooming Academy in Bulkington. At Barking Mad we pride ourselves in the fact that all groomers are qualified to Level 3 City and Guilds in Dog Grooming.

I love my new van which has been designed with dogs in mind, it is fully heated and has a window so dogs can watch the world go by when they are having their hair done! It is fully equipped with modern grooming equipment and it has been ergonomically designed to make the most of space so dogs have plenty of room   to move about and get comfortable.

The mobile grooming van means that I come to you at a time and place of your choice, their is no mess for you to clean up afterwards and your pooch wont get stressed in a busy, noisy salon.

1.jpgThis is Alfie, my Border Terrier, who is the inspiration behind me wanting to be a Dog Groomer, he loves laying on the floor being blow dried with the hairdryer! He is 5 this month - Happy Birthday Alfie!! He is   looking forward to his birthday treat of a long walk and a bit of steak!
